Night Bloom

A creature hangs upside down, its purple head speckled like a night sky, its face split into a jaw of pale teeth and two bright blue eyes. It hangs among dark leaves and a single violet orchid, with blue branches cutting across the top and bottom of the canvas. The ground is close to black, so the figure and the leaves seem lit from somewhere inside the picture.

Spatters of white across the upper half read as stars or as spray, and both are probably true. The painting rewards a slow look: a glowing green seed, the sheen on the eyes and the small flowers only appear once your eyes adjust to the dark.
