A detail of a much larger surface: a wash of coral and rust with speckles of turquoise, a pale blue shoreline cutting across the lower half, and a single yellow sapling growing straight out of the light. Red palm fronds push in from the bottom right and one small blue flower stands on the bank.

The paint here is thin, layered and spattered, closer to weather than to drawing, and the sharp fronds are the only hard edges in it. It reads as heat, as a river at dusk, or as a map of somewhere that does not exist.
